Great Lakes Science Center wedding photographer
This shot was captured by my second photographer, and it's a perfect example of why some venues really call for a two-photographer team. The scale here — the ceremony space, the lake, the city skyline in the distance — is part of what makes the Great Lakes Science Center so special as a wedding venue, and it's the kind of location where one photographer simply can't cover the full scope of what's happening. While I was down on the ground, catching the groom's face as his bride walked toward him, my second shooter was positioned above, capturing this wider view of the same moment. This photo is a complement to the up close and personal photos I was getting on the ground, rounding out the couple's memories of their day with a perspective that adds to what I was already getting.
This wide shot really shows off the scale of what the Great Lakes Science Center offers as a ceremony site — the terrace, the guest seating, and beyond it, Lake Erie stretching out to the horizon. That's the Steamship William G. Mather docked in the harbor behind the ceremony, a retired freighter turned museum ship that's been part of Cleveland's waterfront for decades. Having that kind of backdrop, water and sky and a piece of the city's history all in one frame, is part of what makes this venue so special.
This particular wedding took place Labor Day weekend, which happened to fall during Cleveland's air show. Right after the ceremony, in the middle of family portraits, the Blue Angels flew directly overhead — tight formations, sharp turns, solo passes right over the lake. Everyone stopped what they were doing to watch. It's not something you can plan for or request, but it turned an already memorable day into one this family will be talking about for years.
